Injuries to several pedestrians have been reported after a bus crashed into a building next to Piccadilly Gardens earlier today.
A Diamond Bus crashed into City Towers at 1pm and several emergency services rushed to the scene.
They have since confirmed there was ‘a number of casualties’ but none can provide a specific number.
A witness said: “The bus veered off the road and headed towards the building in a quick flash.
“But the driver was hitting the accelerator even after the crash had happened.”
Transport for Greater Manchester has shut down the tram stop and diverted buses to alternate stops.
North West Ambulance Service told the MEN they had sent: four ambulances, two senior paramedics, a cycle responder, an operations manager and the Hazardous Area Response Team to the scene.
Another witness saw a man on a stretcher being carried to an ambulance.
Many injured and other casualties have been taken to the hospital.
Along with the ambulances, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue were also present on the scene.
GMP has issued a statement asking the public to avoid the area while officers investigate the incident.
