Manchester’s annual Northern Vegan Festival returned for its milestone 10th anniversary last weekend.
Visitors flocked to Sugden Sports Centre in the heart of the city on Saturday to stock up on vegan food and Christmas gifts.
They also heard expert talks on nutrition, wellbeing and plant-based farming.
The festival was set up in 2014 to help fund the organisers’ animal support charity Miracle’s Mission.
And in the past decade, the festival has grown from hosting 50 vegan stalls to 120, reflecting veganism’s growing popularity.
Co-organiser Victoria Bryceson said: “We really wanted to show people that you can go vegan and still eat a massive variety of foods because, even now, and especially back then, people thought it was a really bland and limiting lifestyle.”
Almost 90% of Britain’s vegans adopted the lifestyle in the past decade, according to YouGov data.
MM asked organisers, vegan activists and plant-based businesses how they felt the lifestyle had evolved since 2014…
