Former Stockport Metro swimmer Keri-Anne Payne admitted she was at a loss to explain her struggles at the 2016 British Swimming Championships after she could only finish third in the 800m freestyle in Glasgow.

Lauren Quigley believes her rivals will see a much different athlete next month in Russia to the person who made her World Championships debut two years ago.

A solitary silver medal over 50m was as good as it got for 20-year-old Lauren Quigley at last year’s Commonwealth Games after impressing in the nationals as she fell just short of the podium in the 100m and 200m.
