The campaign to become MP for Bury South is almost over, and with the 2024 general election looming this week
Just 402 votes separated Labour and the Conservatives in Bury South as the latter gained the Greater Manchester seat from Jeremy Corbyn’s party during what was a truly abysmal night for Labour.
With a once in a generation snap election just around the corner, it’s time for UK residents to visit their polling stations and vote for their local MP.
The Bury South MP was suspended from the party over sexual harassment allegations back in November and will represent his constituency independently of the Labour whip until an investigation has been completed.
Bury is red after a successful night for the Labour Party saw them hold Bury South and gain Bury North.
Ivan Lewis, MP for Bury South, said the decision to hand the former London mayor a further 12 month suspension was further evidence that a report by Shami Chakrabarti into anti-Semitism in the Labour Party was ‘not worth the paper it was written on’.
