A Wigan carer who stole more than £5000 from an elderly couple suffering from mental and physical health difficulties has today been jailed for a year.
Thousands of pounds in cash was stolen from a Wigan building society last night after thieves wielding a machete and hammer confronted security guards and made off with ATM cash.
The incident occurred outside Rainbow Taxis on Wigan Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, at about 5.45am on Sunday November 16.
