Manuel Pellegrini has admitted that he was left mystified after Manchester City lost 3-2 at Aston Villa on Saturday.
Despite dominating the game, the Blues shipped three goals on the road for the second time this season to ensure the points stayed in Birmingham.
It leaves Pellegrini’s side with just one point from a possible nine on the road this term, and the Chilean was left ruing a five minute spell that cost them a result.
“It’s very difficult to explain football,” he told the club’s official website.
“We controlled the ball, we had the advantage twice – the second goal was a beautiful free-kick – the third goal was incredible. We must concentrate for 90 minutes.
“I hope that some day we will win away because this is the third game we’ve played and we haven’t won any.”
City had twice taken the lead with goals from Yaya Toure and Edin Dzeko, but strikes from Karim El Ahmadi, Leandro Bacuna and Andreas Weimann won the game for the hosts.
The Citizens could be as low as seventh by Monday evening, with last weekend’s stunning victory over rivals Manchester United already becoming a distant memory.
They face European champions Bayern Munich next, and the manager was disappointed with the way this result halted his side’s momentum.
“It’s always better to play in the Champions League when you have won the Premier League game before,” he said.
“But the team is playing with trust and confidence so I hope we can do a good match again next Wednesday.”
