Vincent Kompany has urged his Manchester City teammates not to lose focus as they look for their 20th consecutive game unbeaten at Tottenham.
Spurs were thrashed 6-0 at the Etihad in December but have been on a good run themselves under new boss Tim Sherwood dropping just two points from his six league games in charge.
City can go top with a win after Arsenal could only draw at Southampton but the captain has warned that they cannot afford to take anything for granted as they fight for success in four competitions.
“Complacency is our biggest enemy, it’s very simple,” Kompany told ESPNTV.
“We have six or seven players thinking offensive, and that just means we have to be super aggressive to recover the ball quickly.”
City are fresh from cup wins over West Ham and Watford, the latter of which contained a Sergio Aguero hat-trick, and are gearing up for a crucial part of the season.
Wednesday’s match is followed by the first of two home games against Chelsea in the space of a fortnight, with Barcelona also coming to the Etihad next month.
And, despite their record-breaking goal scoring feats, the Belgian centre-back knows first-hand that it can sometimes prove to be costly.
“Our weakness is our strength, like any other squad that are so dominant and so attacking,” he said
“When we don’t have the ball, ultimately we’re not as good anymore, so I think a good strength is to know how you function.
“This is how we function, so there are no excuses for us not to look to get the ball back very quickly.”
