Manchester Phoenix overcame multiple injuries to take two points out of four from a tough weekend in the English Premier League.
Tony Hand’s side were missing key players Stan Gron and Mark Thomas but welcomed a new recruit in Hull Pirates’ defender, Jan Platil.
The side travelled south to Swindon to take on the Wildcats but the missing pieces took their toll as the Phoenix lost 5-3.
Once again upon returning home the Manchester side turned to their fellow North Walian residents, the Deeside Dragons, to make up for injury losses.
The tactic worked as Michal Satek scored a hat trick in their 5-2 triumph over the Sheffield Steeldogs.
Phoenix owner, Neil Morris, reflected on the weekend’s events:
“Sheffield were outstanding on Sunday, their goalkeeper was excellent.
“The support of the Deeside Dragons made the difference. When you’re short of bodies the energy they bring onto the ice is fantastic and the goals we scored were out of this world.
“I’m really proud of the boys at the moment. They’ve been brilliant in recent weeks.”
The Phoenix face Bracknell Bees away on Saturday, October 3 and return home to play Basingstoke Bison on Sunday.
The teams’ suffered different fates last season with Basingstoke claiming third position whilst Bracknell finished at the bottom of the league.
In a shock result Bracknell beat Basingstoke on Sunday, so Phoenix have it all to play for.
