Don’t forget who we are: Manchester United have plenty of quality and WILL add to it, insists David Moyes

By John McDougall

Despite the Cesc Fabregas transfer saga rumbling on, David Moyes remains confident of adding to Manchester United’s squad sooner rather than later.

The Red Devils have had bids of £26million and £30million rejected by Barcelona for Fabregas, 26, and have so far been left frustrated in this summer’s transfer market.

And though unsure if the Premier League champions will make a fresh bid, the Glaswegian is hoping to make his first major signing as Old Trafford boss.

“I couldn’t tell you if there will be another bid for Fabregas,” he told BBC Sport.

“I never at any time said I knew we would get him. We will take stock and consider what we are going to do next.

“What we’ve got is a good squad already. You can’t forget about the quality that’s already here at Manchester United.

“Undoubtedly we hope to add to it and I’m quite confident we’ll do that, certainly before the window shuts.”

The Premier League champions have also been disappointed in their pursuit for Thiago Alcantara, who left Barcelona to link up with ex-boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.

Moyes’s only signing so far as United boss since succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson has been Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela.
