Champions League mission possible for Man City thanks to ‘special’ Aguero – Kompany

Vincent Kompany believes Manchester City can achieve anything when star man Sergio Aguero leads the line after his match-winning hat-trick against Bayern Munich.

Trailing 2-1 with five minutes to go against Munich in the Champions League, Aguero capitalised on two errors to clinch the game 3-2 for City.

And skipper Kompany is confident that, with Aguero, they can carry on their form when they head to Roma in December as they seek qualification from Group E.

“He makes things achievable that otherwise wouldn’t be,” he told ITV.

“If you want to succeed at anything, you need a special player in special form, otherwise you just don’t win anything.

“We are better with our backs against the wall and we now go to Rome and it will be an incredible game for everyone.”

City initially took the lead when Aguero was brought down for a penalty, which resulted in Mehdi Benatia getting sent off before the Argentine striker grabbed his first.

However, Munich hit back before the break with Xabi Alonso and Robert Lewandowski giving the Germans an unlikely lead.

It appeared they would hold on as City struggled to break down their sturdy defence but thankfully Aguero was on hand to grab Manuel Pellegrini’s men a vital three points.

That leaves City, Roma and CSKA Moscow all on five points with one game remaining, with Moscow having to travel to Munich for their final game.

“That situation is here now and I am fully comfortable that we can go to Rome and get the result. It will be packed and we are going to take a lot of fans,” Kompany added.

“The atmosphere is going to be incredible so I’m looking forward to that game, it’s a big night.”

Boss Pellegrini hailed Aguero and hopes that victory against the five-times European Cup winners can spur them on to qualify from the group.

“I have always said before tonight that Sergio is one of the best players in the world. He played very well today but I think also that the team played very well, especially in the second half,” the Chilean told MCFC online.

“I can assure you that this kind of victory gives a lot of trust to the whole squad, so it was very important at this moment to do it. We will see what happens in the next round.

“I said last week if we have a mathematical chance to qualify then we will fight to the end and that is what we have been doing so far.

“It is important for us to do our duty and then we will see what happens in the other game.”
