Manchester United are ‘baffled’ by rumours that manager David Moyes could leave his post after betting was suspended on his departure today.
Bookmaker Coral have since suspended betting on his departure after rumours of an imminent 2.30pm announcement on the New York Stock Exchange had spread on social media.
News of the announcement led to a flurry of speculation that Moyes would be dismissed.
But United have moved to deny that Moyes is set to leave.
“United are baffled by the reports that their manager was set to leave his position,” according to PA Sport.
The club handed Moyes a six-year contract in the summer and have always indicated that he will be given time to make his mark after he replaced Sir Alex Ferguson.
A dismal 2-0 defeat in the last-16 Champions League clash with Olympiakos last night cranked up the pressure on the Scot as his side were left on the brink of a European exit.
They now need to win the second leg by three goals in three weeks’ time to advance to the quarter finals.
The setback was the most recent in a poor season that has seen the Premier League giants dumped out of both domestic cups as well as languishing in sixth in the Premier League.
