Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag remains popular with the fans of his former club FC Twente in advance of tonight’s Europa League clash.
The Red Devils boss started and ended his career with FC Twente, winning the Dutch Cup and amassing over 200 appearances over three spells for the Dutch side.
The clubs face each other on Wednesday night in the opening game of the reformed eight-match-long UEFA Europa League group phase at Old Trafford.
Twente supporter, Michael van der Veen, 27, said: “Erik ten Hag is a decent trainer, he managed Ajax very well and is very respected.
“His prestige is with Ajax – he was very good in the Champions League and is a respected coach.
“We like him at Twente.”
But the Eredivisie side’s supporters were cautious of the greater expectations upon ten Hag at Manchester United.
John Westerik, 42, said: “I think ten Hag was a good coach in the Netherlands and I hope he will have success at Man United but it will be difficult.
“It is a big club.”
Erik ten Hag will be hoping to improve on last season’s European campaign when they were eliminated in the group stages after winning just one of their six games.
In the Premier League, they have amassed seven points from the opening five games this season, having drawn 0-0 in their last game away to Crystal Palace.
And fellow Dutchman Arne Slot’s impressive start at rivals Liverpool, including a 3-0 win at Old Trafford, has increased the pressure on ten Hag.
Mees, 21, said: “The difference is that Slot can talk a lot better in the English language so he can talk about the tactics.
“With Erik ten Hag it is always the same story- it’s going to be alright- that sort of thing.”
