Wigan Warriors’ Anthony Gelling is confident that the side’s home form will help claim victory in their play-off semi-final next Friday at the DW Stadium.
Gelling – who joined the Warriors in 2012 making 13 starts and bagging seven tries in his debut season – featured in the 2011 New South Wales Cup Grand Final.
And the Cook Islands international is determined to secure passage to Old Trafford after cementing his place in Shaun Wane’s side this season.
“We’re pretty confident that no matter who we end up playing, with the home form we have had this year, if we can keep that up then we will do well,” Gelling told the Warriors’ official site.
“We’ve done well at home, our away form has been a bit patchy but we know that a win at home means it’s a game at Old Trafford after that.”
The Warriors have lost just three games at the DW Stadium all season and dismantled Huddersfield Giants 57-4 last Thursday.
“We didn’t expect that score line, we expected the win but not that,” admitted Gelling.
“The way we started the game, the first half hour – even though the score was tight we took a lot out of them.
“It showed at the end of the game, as the game unfolded a lot of gaps started opening up for us and we just used them really.”
Warriors are looking to retain the Super League crown they clinched last season but Gelling, who represented the Cook Islands in last year’s World Cup, admitted that it has affected his season.
“It was a bit of a slow start to the year, I missed a lot of pre-season because of the World Cup so coming back from that I was a bit rusty,” he said.
“I got my chance though and have done okay.
“It would be my first Grand Final and it is exciting being so close – just one game away.”
Wigan will find out their opponents tomorrow evening after St Helens have selected their opponents in the ClubCall.
