Manchester United are expected to make a record-breaking £50million bid to sign Napoli striker Edison Cavani.
New United boss David Moyes is keen to bolster his attacking options with the much-rumoured departure of Wayne Rooney and no doubt sees 26 year-old Cavani as the perfect strike partner for Robin Van Persie.
Cavani is one of Europe’s hottest properties and is a target for several Premier League clubs including Manchester City.
However United look to be in pole position with a bid which most closely matches Napoli’s valuation of the Uruguayan star.
The whopping £54million release clause in Cavani’s contract makes United’s previous big cash splash of £30million on Dimitar Berbatov in 2008 look paltry in comparison.
