I’ll do it my way: Manchester United’s Ryan Giggs says his and club’s philosophy will get Old Trafford singing again

Goals, tackles, the passion. Manchester United fans have been craving for this all season and player-manager Ryan Giggs says he intends to bring them back to Old Trafford.

In his first press conference, Giggs showed no signs that the tumultuous week at the club had affected him, sharing jokes with the media and maintaining an upbeat attitude.

The Welshman says he feels great pride at being appointed and he wants the players to show passion in their remaining games, starting with Norwich on Saturday.

“It’s the proudest moment of my life,” Giggs told MUTV.

“I want to bring some positivity back – I want to see goals, tackles, the passion.

“I want to see the passion that comes with being a Manchester United player – it’s going to be my philosophy, the United philosophy.

“We’re Man United, we’re at home and I expect a win.”

Giggs will be supported by members of ‘the class of 92’ on his coaching staff – Paul Scholes, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt.

United’s record appearance maker was in good mood throughout his press conference, confirming he will stay on as a player and joked about the first thing he did as manager.

“I’ve given myself a five-year contract,” he told his press conference.

“I’m using my power well.”

Giggs hasn’t scored a league goal this season and needs to score in the remaining games to maintain his record of being the only player to score in every season of the Premier League.

“If there’s a penalty I’ll bring myself on,” Giggs joked to MUTV.

“I’ve had a bit of stick from the players. I had a gaffer sign over my seat in the changing rooms but the players have been great.

“My message is that I trust them. I told them to go and score goals and entertain.

“We have three home games, I want the fans to enjoy it – I want to give them something to shout about.”

United sacked manager David Moyes exactly a year after they had clinched the Premier League title under Sir Alex Ferguson.

This season, United find themselves in seventh in the league, out of Champions League contention and battling for the dubious honour of being in the Europa League next season.

Norwich, without a permanent manager themselves, have plenty to fight for, being just two points above the relegation zone.

Giggs will want United to win their next three home games, to avoid losing an unthinkable seventh match at Old Trafford this season.
