Bury need to prepare for Christmas madness after first home defeat, says Flitcroft

Bury manager David Flitcroft feels his side need to begin preparing for a busy period ahead, following their first home defeat of the season.

An Aaron O’Connor hat-trick sealed the win for Newport County, despite Danny Rose’s superb 25-yard finish that had given the Shakers hope of a fight back.

Flitcroft’s side face Dagenham and Redbridge in the league next weekend before returning to FA Cup action as Bury face five matches in December.

“We’ve got a good week of planning next week – it’s a busy period coming up that we want to go into it feeling strong,” said Flitcroft.

“We’ll start working on Dagenham straightaway – you’ve got to have strategies to beat teams.

“It’s been a little disjointed in the past few days – we just need to get to Thursday and see what squad we’ll have up to January.”

The former Barnsley boss is also aiming to bolster his squad right up until the loan deadline on Thursday November 27, having already recruited heavily.

Scott Loach, Hallam Hope, Tom Kennedy and Hayden White have all joined in recent weeks but Bury were still unable to field seven substitutes against Morecambe.

Craig Jones and Pablo Mills face spells on the side lines with hamstring and a groin injuries respectively and Flitcroft is unsure how long they will be unavailable for.

On-loan Rochdale defender Kennedy has also departed the JD Stadium after a brief spell, to play Championship football with Blackpool.

Flitcroft had said he felt Kennedy had the potential to play at a much higher level and was a coup when he returned to the Shakers in October.

White however, who is on loan from Bolton Wanderers until Thursday January 4, has said he is looking to help the side’s promotion charge.

“The manager told me it was a good squad here looking for promotion – I’m only 19 and wanted to be a part of it,” he said.

“I’m more used to playing four at the back but don’t mind the five – I’m looking for as many assists as possible and a few goals from my time here.”
