Manchester City could receive a double blow and a major dent to their credentials as Spanish starlet Isco and Napoli’s Edinson Cavani look set to snub the club.
It was thought Malaga playmaker Isco was close to signing with the Blues due to his ties with new boss Manuel Pellegrini, but now Real Madrid look to be leading the race.
Spanish broadsheet El Confidencial say that Real learned of the amount City had agreed to pay for Isco and bettered it, and the Spanish giants also seem to be the club favoured by Cavani.
When asked about his future recently, the Uruguyan omitted mention of City completely.
“I’m flattered by the interest of certain teams. Who would ever say no to Real Madrid or Chelsea? We’ll see what happens,” he told Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport.
El Confidencial report that Real Madrid have offered Malaga €27million for Isco’s services, which will be enough to seal his transfer unless City boss Pellegrini dramatically ups his offer.
Pellegrini is said to be angry as he thought the deal to sign the 21-year-old was all but done, but he concedes it is hard for any young player to turn down an offer from the Spanish giants.
