Cyclist Laura Trott excited by ‘atmosphere’ at upcoming National Track Championships in Manchester

By Matt Naylor

Olympic gold medallist Laura Trott is among 237 cyclists who hope to be lifted by the atmosphere this week at the National Track Championships in Manchester.

Fellow Olympic champions Jason Kenny, Ed Clancy, Steven Burke, Philip Hindes and Jason Kenny as well as former world champion Andrew Tennant will also take to the Manchester velodrome, Britain’s first indoor cycling track.

“The National Track Championships mark the start of the track season and I can’t wait to get back on the boards and see who is in good shape going into the winter World Cups,” said the 21-year-old Trott.

“So many great riders have enjoyed their breakthrough performances at the nationals – the atmosphere lifts you up a notch – so if you’ve never been, you’re missing out.”

The annual showpiece, which has been running since 1996, will feature indoor cycling action from across the different track disciplines, including individual and team pursuits and sprints.
