Monday night feast: Wigan and Rosler hungry for goals against Ipswich

Wigan manager Uwe Rosler hopes his side can feed off a promising performance against Huddersfield last week by sinking their fangs into Ipswich this evening.

The Latics dominated possession against the Yorkshiremen and came very close to taking all three points, but a 0-0 draw was all that came of an entertaining clash at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Rosler is now hoping to turn their threat and determination into goals against Ipswich, who Wigan have a fantastic record against… particularly on home turf.

“I always look forward to night games because they fill everyone with extra adrenaline and an extra buzz and that will be great for the players to feed off,” said Rosler.

“We did a lot of things right against Huddersfield and the pleasing thing for me was that we put in a better overall performance than we did at Blackburn last weekend.”

Wigan have won seven of the last eight meetings with Ipswich not only have Wigan been able to put on decent performances this season so far, but they now have an extensive squad available to them.

The return of James McClean from injury was a real advantage for the Latics against the Terriers and Rosler seems pleased to welcome him back into the side, along with Ben Watson and Chris McCann, both of whom are also set to make a return on Monday night.

“Almost every player is at my disposal now: it’s just a case of selecting the right ones for this fixture,” said Rosler.

Having claimed their first point away from home against Huddersfield, Wigan will take confidence into their clash with Mick McCarthy’s men despite Ipswich’s form of late which has transported them into the Championship top 10.

Ipswich will want to retain their recent form to continue their climb but it is a must-win for Wigan if they want to make their mark as a winning force this season.

“We’re going into the game with pretty stable home performances and after Tuesday’s game we’ve analysed things and from that we are confident of progressing,” said Rosler.
