Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that he is ethically obliged to cool his interest in Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney until after Monday night’s clash between the two clubs.
The London team have already submitted two offers for Rooney that were immediately rebuffed by the Reds.
A third bid is expected to be made for Rooney before the end of the transfer window but Mourinho believes that proper etiquette dictates it be made after the clubs face-off.
“I think this period, by the ethical point of view, is a period where we’re going to be quiet,” Mourinho said after last night’s match with Aston Villa.
“I don’t want Chelsea to do it before we go there.”
“Everybody in the club, in the board, they agree with me. They share that opinion.”
Earlier this week Mourinho revealed that Chelsea would work until the last day of the transfer window to bring ‘one more player’.
While he would ideally like that player to be Wayne Rooney he also admitted that his club were looking at other options.
“We have a plan B and a plan C! Don’t ask me names, because it’s difficult to speak about players from other clubs,” he said.
