Having experienced the taste of winning silverware last season, Manchester United striker Robin van Persie wants to make it a habit for the rest of his career.
The 29-year-old Dutchman was part of a Red Devils side that won the Premier League title by 11 points and was van Persie’s first league winners medal of his career.
Now under a new manager in David Moyes, van Persie insists he is hungry to win more titles and add more accolades to the Old Trafford trophy cabinet.
“I want more now. It makes me even more hungry. I was very hungry last year but now I am more hungry,” he told the Guardian.
“We have a great bunch of players so we can win more and do better. I always try to do better than the day before so, yes, I can do better than last year.
“The club wants to win more. Last year we won the league and that was great but this time we want to win the league and more as well.
“I still have more years left and it’s not like I am saying: ‘Yeah, we won the league so that’s me done’.”
Van Persie was signed by Moyes’ predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson last summer from Arsenal for a £24million transfer fee.
United’s defence of their Premier League crown gets underway in less than a month away with challenges from Manuel Pellegrini’sManchesterCityand Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea anticipated.
With new bosses and players littering the English top flight, van Persie feels United must respond to their rivals attempts to steal the league from them.
“We have to improve to stay ahead of them because over the last few years the English league has become better and better,” he explained.
“They can think what they want to think. It doesn’t matter to us. What matters to us is the way that we work.
“Trust me, we will work very hard. It’s a huge challenge to all of us and it is one we are looking forward to.”
United begin their Premier League campaign on August 17 against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
