A spectacular strike from hat-trick hero Robin van Persie sealed Manchester United an unprecedented 20th league title as the champions dominated Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
Van Persie scored the fastest Premier League hat-trick in nine years to seal victory – and the title – in the first half, in a carnival atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams.
Van Persie broke the deadlock after just two minutes, smashing into an empty net at the back post from Ryan Giggs’ lofted pull back.
The Dutchman doubled the champions’ lead 11 minutes later, latching onto Wayne Rooney’s ranging pass to volley past Brad Guzan with what could be the goal of the season.
And after 33 minutes van Persie collected his hat-trick, cementing United’s 20th title by rifling home from close range having again linked up with Giggs.
Old Trafford erupted at the final whistle as United were crowned Premier League winners, heading into their last four league games as champions elect.
