Lymm under-12s coach Neil Ellam is urging his starlets to enjoy every second when they share the Twickenham stage with their idols later this month.
While the Aviva Premiership Rugby clubs battled it out to see who would reach Twickenham for the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final on May 30, Lymm were assured of their place at the showpiece some time ago.
They secured their spot at rugby HQ at a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup festival hosted by Sale Sharks on October 19.
Lymm will be taking part in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup Parade of Champions during half-time of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final – with Ellam insisting the troops can’t wait to grace the hallowed Twickenham turf.
“It was really good to do so well at the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup because it’s the first time we’ve ever been a part of it,” he said.
“It was a great test to play all the best teams around and we played so well without even conceding a try so I’m very proud of them.
“We’re very excited because we’re taking all the squad with us, all 30 players, so it’s going to be a great day for everyone.
“The whole experience is going to be brilliant for the boys and for them to do something like this at such a young age is a great asset to their future playing careers.”
Launched in the 2008-09 season, the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is the first national grassroots tournament officiated by Premiership Rugby and run in conjunction with all 12 clubs.
And while some of Lymm’s under-12s’ Twickenham experience will start and end on May 30, World Cup winner Lewis Moody is adamant the occasion will continue to have a positive effect on their lives.
“The Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is a wonderful competition,” Moody said. “The more young players who get involved in the game the better and having the carrot of the chance to appear at Twickenham at the end of the season is great.
“To go along and walk on the famous Twickenham pitch will be something the kids will remember for all their lives. It’s set to be a great Aviva Premiership Rugby Final, the stadium will be packed and the atmosphere will be electric.
“It will be a wonderful experience. I met the children that got the chance to go to it last year, all the different teams and age groups were there on the pitch, and to see the excitement on their faces was great.
“I’m sure it will be the same again this year for the players. They played fantastically well in the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup and it’s a brilliant way for them to round off the season.”
