A cheeky chappy joked that Ryan Giggs ‘won’t be walking for three days’ after the Welsh Wizard rolled back the years in helping Manchester United reach the last eight of the Champions League.
Giggs has seen very little football this season, managing just two appearances totalling 81 minutes during the past 10 weeks.
The United veteran was recalled to the starting line-up by Moyes to help his under-fire boss overturn the 2-0 deficit following his side’s first meeting with Olympiakos in Athens last month.
Speaking on FullTimeDEVILS, a Manchester United YouTube fan page, the young Red gave his thoughts on the match.
William, who is clearly not scared of the spotlight, joked: “Giggs to play 90mins of football, he won’t be walking for three days.”
Speaking of his beloved United’s performance, William said: “Second half we sat back, we thought it was done and we let Olympiakos get in.
“David de Gea (made) two crucial saves before the break, and then Van Persie getting the goal right on half time.”
The United manager’s decision to replace Juan Mata, who was cup tied, and Adnan Januzaj with Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck to inject some pace into the team also impressed the young Red.
“Good change by David Moyes,” William said.
William also shared his thoughts on Moyes’ future at the Manchester United helm.
“I don’t think it will be as long as his contract says but I think it will be two or three seasons more and then we will get rid of him and get a new manager,” he said.
After months of mediocrity, fans watched an exhibition of football that they are more accustomed to seeing at Old Trafford, in a match that saw Dutch striker Robin van Persie score a hat-trick.
The performance was much improved from the shambolic 3-0 defeat to Nort West rivals Liverpool at the weekend.
Performance from Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and David de Gea fuelled United’s fight-back, however it was Giggs’ performance which was perhaps the highlight of the night.
Giggs’ performance also highlighted just how difficult a job Moyes has in replacing United’s most decorated player.
Speaking in the post-match-press conference, Moyes explained Giggs’ lack of minutes this year.
“I thought he is 40 years old and I need to be looking to the future. I have been trying to give everyone opportunities,” Moyes said. “Ryan is not going to go on forever so we have to find the new Ryan Giggs and use other players but we needed his experience tonight.”
The United veteran is used to breaking records, and last night the Welsh Wizard broke another, becoming only the second player to reach 140 Champions League appearances after Real Madrid legend Raul (142).
“He defies his age is a great player,” Moyes said. “Everyone who has been at Manchester United knows he is a great player. It’s incredible the amount of games he’s played in the Champions League.
“He was fantastic, the passes he made, his general football, and his fitness. Normally you think with a player like that you need to bring them off at 60 minutes but not him. He’s a freak.”
The quarter final draw is held in Nyon on Friday where Manchester United face the prospect of coming up against footballing heavyweights such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and English rivals, Chelsea.
