Bury manager David Flitcroft says his side must find a way to turn draws into wins following a stalemate against local rivals Rochdale on Saturday.
The Shakers tested Dale keeper Josh Lillis on several occasions, but could not find a breakthrough.
Lillis impressed as he saved a point-blank header from Leon Clarke at the death, following a double stop from Clarke and captain Nathan Cameron just before half time.
Despite recording a tenth unbeaten game in League One, Flitcroft pointed to missed opportunities against Wigan and Rochdale in recent weeks.
“We’ve spoke to them after the game to say ‘how do we turn one point into three?’” he said.
“That’s the most important part of our learning curve in League One – in the last two weeks, certainly at Wigan and today – of how we’re progressing to turn one point into three.
“It really is the next part of the progression, that consistently you’re competing and getting three points.
“We all want that, we’re all fighting for that, the players are really fighting.”
Rochdale manager and Flitcroft’s close friend Keith Hill suggested to BBC Radio Manchester that the Shakers are currently downplaying expectations and expects them to target promotion.
“Bury are obviously a good side,” he said.
“You look at the recruitment policy, the infrastructure, their investments, the desire to get automatic promotion.
“Even if they are trying to hide it, they can’t hide it. You look at what’s going on at the ground, the amount of sponsors they have, the players they’ve got.”
Bury remain fourth in League One and will look to extend an impressive unbeaten away run, stretching back to January, ahead of a midweek trip to Bradford.
