Bury look to shake up league as home advantage key to table top clash against Burton, claims Flitcroft

Bury manager David Flitcroft believes home advantage will make the difference in his side’s top of the table clash against Burton Albion this Saturday.

The Shakers are on a seven match unbeaten run and sit just two points behind Albion, who lost their first game of the season earlier this week.

Flitcroft’s side came from behind to beat Stevenage 2-1 on Tuesday and he expects another tough test this weekend.

“They will be disciplined, but we’re spending a lot of time on getting our game plan up to speed,” he said.

“We want to be competitive on Saturday – the lads really enjoy playing at home. The pitch helps – it’s slick and quick.

“I think people underestimate the structure of our team. We don’t concede many goals,” added the former Barnsley boss.

Club captain Jim McNulty is expecting a response from Burton, but is adamant that confidence is high within the Bury camp heading into the latest League Two fixture.

“Burton will want to bounce back and it will be a test of their character. They’ll have watched us and we watched them [in the midweek games],” he said.

“I can’t wait for Saturday – the changing room is bouncing.”

Youth academy product Nicky Adams is relishing Bury’s current form and the competition for places within the squad, but is refusing to look too far ahead.

Referring to Tuesday’s squad he said: “Look at the players that aren’t even in the side. This team could compete in League One, but the next job is Saturday.

“It’s an exciting time for us. We’ll respect them [Burton] – they’re not top of the league for nothing.”

Scott Quigg, the Bury born W.B.A World super-bantamweight champion and British super-bantamweight champion, will also be at the JD Stadium on Saturday.

The professional boxer is a guest of honour for the home side and will be cheering on his local team.
