Manchester United reportedly offered a two-year deal to former Chelsea playmaker Willian prior to the Brazilian signing with Arsenal.
Willian, who joined the Blues in 2013, left the club at the end of last season following the expiration of his contract.
According to ESPN Brazil, the 32-year-old had no desire to leave Stamford but felt “discredited” by the club, who were unwilling to hand him the three-year deal he was after.
With such a deal now signed at Arsenal, it remains to be seen how he fits into Mikel Arteta’s plans in the North of London.
Per the aforementioned outlet, both United and Manchester City offered the player two-year deals, with Barcelona and Bayern Munich also said to have contacted him.
United, meanwhile, will be playing Champions League football next season after finishing third in the Premier League and are reported as having listed a number of transfer targets. It’s no secret that Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho was top priority but the German outfit remains adamant the player will stay.
“It is very important [that] we were able to keep him at Dortmund. It is important for the team as well.[But] I don’t know what will happen in the future,” BVBmanager Lucien Favre told Der Westen.
Sancho is 11/8 to join United before the close of the transfer window with Betfair. Chelsea were also interested in signing the attacking ace at one point and the bookies have them at 14/1 to snag his signature.

United are currently 9/1 to win the Premier League next term with William Hill, who are offering odds of 1/1 on favourites Manchester City and 7/4 on current champions Liverpool. Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer’s men are also 4/11 to finish in the top four again with Bet Victor, while Chelsea are 1/2 with Paddy Power. Tottenham and Arsenal are both 3/1 with Bet365.
Meanwhile, United are the third-favourites for the FA Cup next season, behind City, who are 9/2 with Betway. The Old Trafford team has odds of 7/1 attached to their name, with Liverpool at 6/1.
Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is also understood to be a target for the Red Devils and Brazil legend Rivaldo reckons he would be a “good option” should the club fail to sign Sancho.
“Dembele could be a good option for United. He’s very quick and talented, and I believe he could prosper in the Premier League,” the former Barca star told Betfair.
United have been advised to drop their Sancho pursuits and try to sign Harry Kane instead, with former England manager Steve McClaren insisting the Tottenham forward would be a better fit in the team’s attack.
The England captain is 4/6 to remain at Tottenham this summer with Paddy Power but the bookies have United at 5/2 to snatch him from White Hart Lane. Man City are 9/2 in that regard while there are 13/2 odds available on the striker joining La Liga winners Real Madrid.
