Manchester United have had a £28million joint bid rejected for Everton stars Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.
United have failed to secure any signings so far this summer and David Moyes is keen to bolster his squad by swooping for two of his former players.
It is understood that the offer was £16million for Fellaini – who had a £23million release clause that expired in July – and the rest for Baines.
However, United’s bid has been rebuffed and Everton are keen to keep hold of their two prized assets.
Both of the players featured in the Toffee’s opening day draw on Saturday against Norwich.
There appears to be a seismic gulf between United and Everton’s valuations of the players and whether or not an agreement can be made remains to be seen.
