Manchester United face Swansea City in season opener but face tough early clashes with Chelsea and Liverpool

By Alex Bysouth

Manchester United will start their Premier League title defence with a trip to Swansea City in new boss David Moyes’ first game in charge.

The Red Devils will face rivals City at the Etihad on the weekend of September 22 and would surely be delighted with a repeat of Robin van Persie’s added time strike last season.

They will welcome City back to Old Trafford in the reverse fixture on the weekend of March 21.

Jose Mourinho’s new look Chelsea outfit are sure to be a threat this campaign and Moyes will come up against the ‘Happy One’ in just his second fixture, and first at Old Trafford.

A Gareth Bale-inspired Tottenham Hotspur – should Daniel Levy fend off world record bids for the Welshman – will visit Old Trafford on New Year’s Day, after United travel to White Hart Lane on November 30.

Andre Villas Boas’ men built an early lead in Manchester last season before being forced to soak up immense pressure from Sir Alex Ferguson’s title-winning United.

Moyes, who held a decent record against Arsenal while at Everton, witnessed a 16-year-old Wayne Rooney bag a wonder goal to beat the Gunners 2-1 in 2002.

The Scot will face Arsene Wenger for the first time as United boss on November 9 before travelling to the Emirates on February 11.

Moyes will welcome his former club to Old Trafford on December 3 before returning for the first time to Goodison Park on April 19.

Moyes also faces an early trip to old rivals Liverpool as United visit Anfield on August 31 before the reverse on March 15.

United will host Norwich City and Sunderland at Old Trafford before the season comes to a climax with a trip to St Mary’s against Southampton on May 11.
