Ex-Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has turned up the heat ahead of the Blues’ visit current side Tottenham Hotspur.
The Togo international spent two seasons at the Etihad Stadium – although half a season on-loan at Real Madrid – before moving to White Hart Lane on-loan, but has struggled in North London after signing a permanent deal.
However, the 29-year-old is confident his time at City gives him the advantage of knowing how to beat the Premier League champions.
“If we put them under pressure we have a chance to win for sure,” he said.
“Whenever things are not going their way there will definitely be a fight or an argument on the pitch and that is how we can take them down.
“We saw them having a tough time at Everton so it’s true that they are not strong away.”
Adebayor joined City in 2009 – for £25million – and enjoyed a productive first season in the North West, netting 14 times in 26 league games.
However, he soon fell out-of-favour and loan spells at Real Madrid and Tottenham preceded his cut-price exit last summer.
But Adebayor does not have any ill-feeling towards the club or manager Roberto Mancini for the way he was treated.
“I don’t have anything to prove to Man City,” he added. Man City is a sacred club.
“I have a huge respect for the players because I got players there that I can call family – people like Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure, and Vincent Kompany.
“I don’t have any pressure that says I have to beat Man City because of the way they treated me – because they bought me expensively and sold me for cheap.
“We are all human beings. We are all adults.
“I cannot tell you what happened and what did not happen. For me today I move on.”
