Kick in the nuts: Wayne Rooney strikes low blow on David Moyes after nutmegging boss in training

David Moyes was humiliated for the second time in a week by another Liverpudlian – after Wayne Rooney nutmegged the Manchester United boss in training.

Moyes and the Red Devils are currently licking their wounds after their humiliating 3-0 defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday.

The Scot was left flustered once again ahead of the crunch Champions League meeting with Olympiakos tonight.

The under-fire boss was nutmegged by his former Everton protégé after he joined in with a training drill ahead of the crucial European match.

Moyes, who has had little smile about all season, was left red-faced but did appear to see the funny side, jokingly chasing his star man round the pitch.

Training methods at Carrington have been the subject of much scrutiny this season since Moyes took over last summer.

Robin van Persie’s return to the injury-hit earlier years of his career that dogged him at Arsenal had sparked speculation about the intensity of the training in the Moyes era.

Similarly, recent dour displays have also called into question the United players attitude towards Moyes as well as the atmosphere and morale around Old Trafford.

Relations between Rooney and Moyes, who previously fell out when Rooney acrimoniously exited Everton in 2004, appear to be buoyant.

And Moyes will be counting on his man to lead his troops into battle tonight, as Manchester United attempt to overturn their first-leg 2-0 deficit against the Greek champions.

United will be without too of the defensive front-line as Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans both sit out the match hamstring and calf injuries respectively.

Shinji Kagawa could be in line for a rare start after being left out in the cold in recent weeks, in place of new boy Juan Mata who is cup-tied after featuring for Chelsea earlier in the tournament.

The Red Devils need to win by three goals to ensure they join Chelsea, who comfortably saw off Turkish side Galatasaray 3-1 on aggregate, into the last eight.
