Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara could become David Moyes’ top summer transfer target after Holland under 21 starlet Marco Van Ginkel played down Manchester United’s interest.
According to sources in Catalunya, Thiago has told the La Liga champions he wants to leave the club – who are lining up Chelsea’s Juan Mata as a replacement.
Vitesse midfielder Van Ginkel, also a target for Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho, has distanced himself from a move to Old Trafford meaning Moyes may swoop for the Spaniard instead.
“Manchester United? I didn’t know about their interest,” said Van Ginkel. “I have two more years at Vitesse. It is a club that is growing, so I’m also happy there.
“My future – now I have a vacation and I’ll concentrate on that. After my holiday, we will see, maybe.”
Thiago, who reportedly has an £18million release clause in his contract, is part of the Spain under 21 squad who face Italy in the European Championships final on Tuesday evening.
As he searches for reinforcements Moyes is looking to offload flop Bebe, who has spent the last two seasons on loan with Besiktas and Rio Ave.
The 22-year-old made just two appearances during his time at Old Trafford and is keen on a move to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.
“I would love to play for Sporting,” said Bebe, who Sir Alex Ferguson paid £7.4million in 2010.
“The club would suit me and it is an ambition of mine to play for them.
“They put faith in young players, appreciate them, and play an attractive game that suits my style.
“It is a club where I can grow. I haven’t found that in England.”
