Wigan manager Uwe Rosler and midfielder Adam Forshaw will both face their former club Brentford this weekend where the Latics desperately need three points.
Latics now have six games without a win whereas Brentford have had a solid start with a 17-point return from 11 matches.
In Rosler’s 50th game in charge of Wigan, he will be painfully aware that his side lie 11 places below the Bees in the Championship table, but they have got the quality to overcome them.
Forshaw said: “It’s going to be strange coming up against them, but I’m looking forward to it and in football you have to put all of those feelings aside.
“There’s only one job in hand and that’s a Wigan win.”
Latics players have performed well during the international break, with Shaun Maloney scoring for Scotland against Poland and James McClean named man of the match for Ireland’s 1-1 draw with world champions Germany.
The club’s performances against Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers also gave the players some optimism as they came away with two draws and finally grabbed some much-needed goals.
Forward Callum McManaman said: “We know we need to turn it around but we have the players to do it and we just need to keep working hard.
“There will be a spice to it and the atmosphere should be good with a few tackles going in, I love these games.”
McManaman started the season with four goals in five games and after missing out against Wolves he could be another key asset in Wigan’s recovery.
Wigan have won their last three matches against the Bees at the same time as keeping clean sheets.
“I think it will be tough to do what we did last year where we came so good, so late on, I don’t think it will be as simple to do that again this year,” added McManaman.
“We know we need to start picking up now so we don’t leave too much to do later on in the season.”
