‘Not good enough!’ Pellegrini demands more from Manchester City despite destruction of Arsenal

By Alan Ross

Despite a resounding 6-3 victory over table-topping Arsenal, Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Man-of-the-match Fernandinho contributed his first two goals for the club in the match which led to Pellegrini describing the Brazilian’s performance as ‘perfection’.

City have now scored 35 goals at home in their eight league games but the Chilean still wants more from his players.

“It’s very important to be an entertaining team but I would prefer we won 6-0 rather than 6-3,” the 60-year-old told reporters.

“Attacking, it was a very good performance, it’s not easy to score six against Arsenal – the best defence in the Premier League but I think we had four more good, clear chances to score goals, so in that sense I’m very happy but we must keep improving.”

One worry for City fans was the site of Aguero limping off with a calf problem and Pellegrini is waiting on doctor’s verdict to see how long he will be without his star man.

However, despite this setback the former Malaga manager singled out his midfield for particular praise following the part they played in the thrashing of the Gunners.

“Yaya, Samir and David all played very well today, too. The four in the midfield are very difficult to play against – the strikers can score a lot of goals with them behind them,” he added.

The Citizens now wait to find out who they will lock horns with in the last 16 of the Champions League before Tuesday’s trip to Leicester for the Capital One Cup, with Pellegrini confident about the draw.

“I am not afraid of who we are going to play in the round of 16. I don’t believe some teams are weaker than the other teams,” he said.

“I believe the 16 best teams in Europe are all exactly the same for us.”
