Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond believes only a ‘fool’ would not select Danny Cipriani for England if he continues his current run of impressive performances.
Cipriani contributed 28 points, including two tries, as the Sharks ran in seven in total in the 53-14 romp over Oyonnax on Friday to head up Pool 1.
Diamond was delighted with the win and believes that as long as Cipriani can maintain his superb form it would be hard for England not to look at re-calling the man who last played for his country in 2008.
“Cipriani was outstanding, he is playing the way everyone knows he can so as long as the pack keeps delivering we stand a chance of winning a lot of games,” Diamond told reporters.
“You would think so (it will be difficult for England to ignore him), but he’s got to keep doing that.
“Keep delivering at training and in games and it would only be a fool who would not pick someone in form like that.”
Mark Cueto went over to secure the bonus point before half time less than a day after his wife gave birth to their second son, Louis, on Thursday.
The win puts the Sharks in the perfect position heading into Friday night’s game against London Irish who lost away in Paris at the weekend.
“It’s a big build for next week with London Irish at home,” the former Russian coach added.
“The likes of Rob Miller and Tom Brady are coming to form, they are getting better every time they play.
“The team is playing reasonably well and we are confident but it steps up again next week in the league.”
