Neil Lennon was delighted with Bolton’s continued defensive strength in the goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday last night – but the Wanderers’ woes in front of goal persisted.
The pleasure of a third clean sheet of the season will have been tempered by Wanderers firing a blank for the sixth time in eight games.
And Lennon is eager for his side to start performing at both ends of the pitch.
“It’s four unbeaten, it’s another clean sheet, it’s another point,” he said.
“If we’re not going to win the game, I’m glad we’re not losing games – that’s four points from the last two games, which is good.
“We looked very tenacious.
“Prince [Gouano] had a very good game, and I thought Neil Danns was outstanding in terms of the amount of tackles and ground he covered for the team.
“It’s a good foundation for us, but we just need that little bit more.
“We’ve got a little bit of creativity with Wellington [Silva], and I thought Liam Feeney had a strong first half.”
At the other end of the field, Lennon’s frustration will have been compounded by the news that promising young striker Zach Clough could potentially be out until Christmas with a shoulder injury following a tackle from Wednesday’s Sam Hutchinson.
And with Wanderers the joint-lowest scorers in the Football League, Lennon says he will now be forced to bring in reinforcements.
“It’s a huge blow for us and obviously for the kid as well.
“The shoulder’s come out, and it may require surgery, so we could be looking at Christmas for that one. We’re light in numbers up there anyway as it is, so to lose Zach is major.
“We’ll have to [bring somebody in].
“We were looking to anyway, but we’ll have to now.
“We’re not just looking for someone to fill up the numbers, we’re going to try and find someone who will make the difference.
“Every team’s looking for one, so that market is very difficult to penetrate.”
