The hope, when the Dutchman gives his first press conference at 3pm on Thursday and then takes charge of the three-times European champions next season, is that Van Gaal will blossom into United’s perfect manager after the gloom of last year.
The 18 x 25ft artwork, commissioned by William Hill and made by a team of expert florists using 25,000 red and white flowers shipped in from Van Gaal’s homeland, is on display at the National Football Museum.
