Although he may have just started his Manchester United career, young winger Wilfred Zaha is already being tipped for greatness.
The 20-year-old joined the club this summer from Crystal Palace and his former manager Ian Holloway believes that the tricky youngster can become a legend at United.
Zaha enjoyed a positive pre-season with the Reds that propelled him into United’s first team for their Community Shield clash with Wigan; and that is where Holloway expects him to stay.
“Everything I’ve seen since he arrived at Old Trafford suggests to me that he will start the season in their first team and I honestly believe he is going to become a legend at the club,” said Holloway.
“Had he not been with us last season I don’t think we would have made it into the Premier League.
“He has that bit extra that makes all the difference. He’s one of those rare players who changes games.”
Holloway is keen to observe how Zaha progresses at Untied and believes that playing with experienced stars will help him reach his potential.
“I was intrigued in the Community Shield when he tried to play a clever back heel which didn’t work. The first player over to him was Ryan Giggs clearly saying: ‘Don’t do that again son,’” he said.
“That’s how it always used to be in the old days and it was brilliant, senior players taking the younger players in hand and looking after them – with that sort of attention Wilf is going to grow fast.
“The kid was a joy to work with and I would say he was one of the nicest young men I’ve known.
“I’ll be watching his development with great interest. I know the boy has all it takes to be a United legend.”
