Let the famous never-say-die spirit of Manchester United come out in the next few weeks before writing off their stuttering season, says captain Nemanja Vidic.
The English champions appear to be surrendering their Premier League crown this season after a disappointing first half of the year, although Vidic has called on the club to put together a run of results and keep in touch with the league leaders.
“We have to win regularly and in the next month we will know exactly where we are,” Vidic said.
“By the end of January and start of February we will show what our position is and what our capability is in the Premier League. Then, of course, the Champions League starts up again. This is an important time for us and we all want to do well.”
David Moyes’s men currently find themselves seventh in the table and seemingly out of the title race, however, a more pressing concern could be five points gap between United and fourth-placed Liverpool.
While failure to qualify for next year’s Champions League could end up depending on United winning this season’s tournament, Vidic has insisted the club could be in a much stronger position by the end of a testing run of games before their European campaign gets back underway in the middle of February. Paddy Power have Man United at 7/4 for a top four finish this season.
United’s domestic hopes this season could well be decided after a run of games that starts with a tough trip to third-placed Chelsea and ends in the middle of February with a clash against with current league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates.
Although Chelsea are odds-on to beat United this weekend, Vidic is aware United will need to start producing some consistency on the pitch during the next few weeks if Moyes is to collect some silverware in a tough first season in charge at Old Trafford.
