Manchester United’s misery as ‘lucky charm’ Robin van Persie ruled out for month with thigh injury

By Alex Lanigan

David Moyes has been dealt further bad news after discovering that Robin van Persie will face a month on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury.

The 30-year-old was injured during the victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday and is going to miss the congested festive period.

The Reds are currently ninth in the league, 13 points behind league leaders Arsenal and manager David Moyes has bemoaned his luck at not being able to pair his favoured strike partnership.

“It’s unfortunate,” said Moyes.

“Our record is good with Wayne Rooney and Robin in the teams. We’ve not had them for quite a period recently.”

United hope to have Van Persie back in time for the clash against Chelsea on January 19, but the striker is expected the miss the next eight games.

Moyes can ill afford to lose his star striker as he has yet to win in the Premier League when Van Persie has not played.

The Netherlands record goal-scorer will miss Premier League games against, Tottenham, Swansea, Aston Villa, West Ham, Hull City and Norwich.

The striker is also going to miss the Capital Cup quarter-final against Stoke and as well as the FA Cup third round tie against Swansea.
