Bolton Wanderers summer signing Andre Moritz says the combativity of Craig Davies and Jermaine Beckford’s flair can help turn around the team’s fortunes after a poor start has left them languishing at the bottom of the Championship.
Goals have been the biggest shortcoming for Dougie Freedman’s side, who face Leeds at the Reebok stadium on Saturday, with only midfielder Darren Pratley and defender Alex Baptiste grabbing the goals so far this term.
Moritz is confident Davies and former Leeds fan’s favourite Beckford will provide the solution to Freedman’s goal-scoring headaches.
“I like Craig Davies – he’s big fella and I like players who can hold the ball for us and fight,” Moritz said speaking to The Bolton News.
“Craig is a massive guy. He’s a tank. Beckford is such a talented player he makes really clever runs, so as a number 10, I like that.
“Beckford is one of those who can stretch the back four and try to catch them off guard. I won’t choose one – I will leave that to the gaffer – but if you could choose both it would be great.”
Wanderers have yet to secure a league win this season and were dismantled by the impressive Blackburn Rovers before the international break.
However, a win against Leeds represents a genuine opportunity to build a platform to begin moving up the league table with a run of winnable games to come.
“We just need to start games better. When you have that first win you have the confidence to go and put pressure on other teams,” said Moritz.
Freedman should have the luxury of a full strike-force to pick from against Brian McDermott’s promotion chasing side, although Chung-Yong Lee’s condition will be checked after he flew in from international duty earlier this week.
