Tinker man Keith Hill will again rotate his squad when Rochdale take on Chesterfield in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.
Dale travel to the Proact Stadium fresh from defeating Torquay in the FA Cup on Saturday.
But the victory will not stop Hill from making changes to the team.
“We’re looking forward to it (but) it’ll be a different side completely,” Hill told The Dale Player.
“We’ve got to look at the opposition. I believe we’ve got a squad of players who can come in and play a specific way against the opposition.”
Dale not only have a chance to progress to the Northern Area semi-finals of the competition Tuesday, but they can also strike a psychological blow ahead of the remaining league season.
Only goal difference separates Chesterfield from Dale in the League Two table with the two sides third and fourth respectively.
The Rochdale boss is hoping that in spite of changes to the starting 11, the team’s values of hard-work, endeavour and ball retention will shine through.
“It won’t always work,” Hill added. “But there’s got be an element of trust and there’s got to be an element of giving the players the experience to learn as well.”
With the cup tie in Derbyshire Dale’s second game of a three-match Hill confessed that he picked all three starting line-ups prior to Saturday’s clash.
“Whether you win or lose you’ve got to try and be brave sometimes,” Hill explained.
“The management merry-go-round is very difficult. You’re only ever one game away from a travesty.”
