Manchester City fans have received a massive boost ahead of Sunday’s monumental title clash against Liverpool with the news that Sergio Aguero will be fit for action.
The Argentinian striker has been missing from the squad with a hamstring injury since City’s exit from the Champions League at the hands of Barcelona last month.
But he has been in blistering form this season scoring 26 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions.
Manuel Pellegrini is delighted to have his talismanic striker back in the fold despite the club going unbeaten in the five games he has missed.
“Sergio is okay. He worked out all week with this squad normally,” the 60-year-old told reporters.
“It’s very important to have him back. He’s a top player.
“It’s very difficult for their defence to stop him and so it’s very important to us.”
Terrace idol and fellow Argentinian Pablo Zabaleta concurred with the thoughts of his manager and declared that Aguero can impact the title in the same way that his countrymen Carlos Tevez helped inspire the Blues to their maiden 2012 crown.
Tevez was recalled from the squad for the final games of the campaign having been dismissed from the club for disciplinary reasons and found the back of the net four times in the final six games to bring Premier League glory to Eastlands.
“It’s a good time for him to come back – I can see why people say it’s similar to Tevez returning – although it’s a different situation,” said the 29-year-old defender.
“Like with Carlos, it’s great for any team to have the best players back in the team again – particularly at this time. He is a very important player and he is going to score goals for us.
“He is fast, he is quick. Sometimes we need players like Sergio to change a game.”
City travel to Merseyside on Sunday looking to secure their first win at Anfield since 2003 and Zabaleta knows that he and his fellow defenders will have to be at their best if they want to keep out the rampant Reds.
“Liverpool score a lot of goals – we know they have great players in front with Suarez, Sterling, Sturridge and they are in a great, great movement,” he said.
“I think we must work really hard not to concede any goal. But we have defended well for a few weeks – not conceding many goals so we have to be confident.
“We know Anfield is always a tough place to go and get points. The atmosphere there is fantastic and I think it will be a great game and we must go there and try to win the game.”
The Merseyside club have launched an all-out assault on the Premier League with nine straight wins and lead the way two points clear of Chelsea.
City are a further two points back; four points off the Reds with two games in hand.
