A remarkable run of eight league wins has put Ashton United above the likes of Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid as Europe’s in-form side.
Though another United in England are so far having a season to forget under new management, the Hurst Cross side are thriving with Paul Phillips and Steve Halford in charge – scoring 19 goals in their last five outings.
Ahead of tomorrow’s Evo-Stik Premier Division clash at AFC Fylde, joint-manager Halford has urged his players to keep their feet on the ground after experience at Mossley last season.
He said: “Last term at Mossley we were top for a long time and then nearly messed it up over that period, I’ve learnt a lot from there.
“We can’t take anything for granted but promotion would be nice, on our day we are a match for anyone in this league and even when we have lost it has not been by much.
“One team we are probably worried about is Chorley and then possibly another 12 teams looking to get into the playoffs.”
Halford also credits the players for their part in staying disciplined over the Christmas period.
“We have not trained much really with the games coming thick and fast as well as the weather but we told the lads over the Christmas period to look after themselves.
“I said to them that picking points up over Christmas can win you the league and they have responded well and done that.”
The Robins have no injuries or suspensions for tomorrow’s match and will be putting out the same squad that defeated Buxton on Wednesday night.
Bottom of the table Droyslden host Barwell as they look to keep a clean sheet after conceding 116 goals so far this season.
Worksop Town travel to Trafford whilst in the First Division North table-toppers Curzon Ashton face Northwich Victoria at the Tameside Stadium.
Mossley visit Ramsbottom United and Salford City have a home fixture against Burscough.
