Chadderton Football Club has reached a landmark agreement with Oldham Council to secure a new 35-year lease on their current home at Broadway Stadium.
Chadderton FC has boasted players such as former England captain David Platt, former Crystal Palace and Leeds United player John Pemberton and even Take That’s Mark Owen.
The club now hope that this new agreement can help attract future stars to the North West Counties club which has been in the area since 1946.
The deal has brought stability to the club and the opportunity to progress its numerous teams and support the community.
Former player and Chadderton resident James Snelson, said: “It’s a fantastic club for people young and old in the area.
“It would have been a sad loss if we no longer had the club, they always have good crowds and people from around Chadderton have grown up watching and supporting the team.”
Councillor Barbara Brownridge, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Cooperatives, said: “This lease gives the hard working volunteers, staff, fans and players peace of mind as they build towards a successful future.
“The council is determined to help them, and other clubs where possible, realise their ambitions.”
Bob Sopel, Chairman of Chadderton FC, said “The committee have worked their socks off and the club has already spent money on improving our clubhouse, pitch, drainage, the stand and fencing around an area where we had trouble with anti-social behaviour.
“These are exciting times for the club and we have so much to look forward to.”
