Departing Bolton Wanderers legend Kevin Davies insists plans for his testimonial will move forward as soon as he finds a new club.
The 36-year-old will leave the Trotters this summer, following ten years with the club, after manager Dougie Freedman confirmed his contract would not be renewed.
Now Davies, whose only England cap came against Moldova in 2010, has taken to Twitter to state that the showpiece has been given the green light.
“Regarding my testimonial, which has been approved by the Football League, I will be forming a committee once I have signed for a new club,” he said.
“I will then be speaking to the club regarding a date for my testimonial.”
Davies, who played 407 times for Bolton, scoring 85 goals, took to the social media site last week to quiz his followers about who his opponents should be.
Many fans suggested a replay of Bolton Wanderers’ 2006 UEFA Cup match up against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
The Sheffield-born striker’s late equaliser secured a memorable draw for the Whites against a team including Oliver Kahn, Franck Ribery, Lukas Podolski and Mark van Bommel.
“Lots of good selections,” said Davies. “Munich at the Reebok seems to be the favourite!
“Would be nice to get some of the boys from the last ten years back.
“Everyone seems to want my good friend and amazing singer Ivan Campo back at The Reebok for my testimonial match!!??”
Davies had been mooted for a move to MLS franchise Toronto FC after his contract was not extended, however in April he confirmed the switch would not go ahead.
“My family and I were naturally excited about the opportunity of going to Toronto on a short-term deal,” he said.
“But after legal advice we felt that certain obstacles put in our way were too large to overcome.”
