Salford City Reds’ Marc Sneyd wants improvement in Challenge Cup after Wigan Warriors thrashing

By Matt Simpson

Salford City Reds utility-back Marc Sneyd is expecting his teammates to forget last week’s disappointment against Wigan Warriors as they take on Warrington Wolves in the Challenge Cup.

The Reds beat the Gloucestershire All Golds to reach this round but they face a side coming off the back of three straight Super League wins.

Their last match against the Wolves ended with a 46-6 defeat and Sneyd is hoping they can produce a far better performance against the eight-time Challenge Cup winners.

“Hopefully we can produce a better performance,” he told MM.

“We were back in training on Monday. We have to try as best we can to forget the last game and look forward to this one against Warrington in the Challenge Cup.

“I think we made it hard for ourselves last time out. Our completion rate, our kicking, everything just wasn’t good enough. It needs to improve.”

Salford have one win and one defeat under new head coach Brian Noble and the 22-year-old believes the squad are gelling nicely in their hunt for the top-eight.

“The players are adapting well under the new coach,” he added. “Everyone is enjoying it because of what he has achieved.

“Hopefully he can bring some of that success to us. As long as we keep improving, I don’t see why we can’t make the top-eight.

“But it is one of those things you just have to take week by week.”

Oldham-born Sneyd also committed his future to the Reds this week, signing a two-year contract extension which will keep him at the Salford City Stadium until 2015.
