Lancashire have signed Australia’s World Cup winning all-rounder James Faulkner as cover for his international team-mate Peter Siddle.
Siddle has been included in Australia’s Ashes squad for the summer, but Faulkner – who excelled in taking 3-36 in the World Cup final against New Zealand last month – will be available until the one-day series with England commences after the tests.
The 24-year-old will be available after his IPL commitments with Rajasthan Royals are completed and will stay at Old Trafford until the end of August.
He said: “Lancashire is a huge county with a fine history in the game and I am looking forward to joining the squad next month.
“Playing in English conditions will benefit my career and I cannot wait to work with Ashley and the rest of the team.
“James is a world-class cricketer and we are absolutely thrilled to bring him to Lancashire,” added Lancashire’s cricket director Ashley Giles.
“While he is better known at the moment for his performances in white ball cricket, his record in first-class cricket is fantastic.”
Faulkner, who will be making his first appearance in the County game, made his test debut in the last test of the 2013 Ashes but has yet to appear in whites for his country since, although he has played 44 ODIs and 11 T20s.
