Manchester United legend and Munich air crash survivor Sir Bobby Charlton led a party of fans and players to pay tribute to the 23 people who died during the 1958 disaster.
Eight players in the ‘Busby Babes’ and three club officials were among those who died when the plane carrying them home from a European Cup tie in Belgrade crashed after refuelling at Munich Airport on February 6.
Players, including midfielder Michael Carrick and defender Rio Ferdinand, visited the disaster memorial site alongside fans ahead of their quarter-final second-leg against European champions Bayern Munich.
“Paid our respects at the Munich memorial, a moving experience seeing group of United fans singing ‘Man United will never die’,” Carrick wrote on Twitter.
