Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is set to lace his football boots and come out of retirement for a second time, only this time for charity.
Scholes is set to lead out a host of United legends in a charity match at Bolton Wanderers Reebok Stadium against the notorious Wimbledon ‘Crazy Gang’ on May 18.
The proceeds raised will go to Sale based charity, Hearts & Minds Challenge, which Scholes is a patron of.
The Paul Scholes XI will feature former team-mates such as Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke, along with the former United captain, Bryan Robson.
The Wimbledon ‘Crazy Gang’ will be spearheaded by hard-man John Fashanu and a host of former Wimbledon players including Terry Phelan.
“It’s going to be a wonderful experience for everybody – it’s great the old Wimbledon gang are getting back together. There will be a bit of competitiveness as we are old pros and that was the ‘Crazy Gangs’ way,” Phelan said.
“I’m quite fit so I’m raring to go and I think most of the others have kept up their training so it should be a brilliant match. More importantly it will be a fun, light-hearted day where we raise money for a good cause.”
Hearts and Minds Challenge offers support to children and families affected by autism.
The charity is attempting to raise £1million to fund a new school in Manchester for autistic children.
Founder of Hearts & Minds Challenge Ian McGrath says it will be a great family fun day.
“This will be a real opportunity for football fans to catch these players in action one more time. We’ve got a few surprise additions to the team sheet too which we will be revealing in the coming months,” McGrath said.
Tickets go on sale on Friday 10th January at 9am, priced £10 for adults, £5 for children.
